Mythic Quest - Episode 9 & 10 - Blood Ocean & Quarantine Special

The title itself reminds me of another zany creation: Galaxy Quest.

But this, of course, is Mythic Quest, featuring a wide array of characters from diverse groups of humans, which is completely in line with Apple’s applaudable overall agenda of being as inclusive as they can, while cramming in expletives wherever they can. The biggest surprise of the series is a pre-teen potty-mouth Pootie_shoe. I wonder if they still pull the Modern Family gimmick they used to with Lily and replace his fudge with swear words.
Episode 9 (Blood Ocean) - A

Maybe A+, mainly for the ending scene that hammers home the deserved rise of Poppy with her juxtaposed as a ruler of Mythic Quest

Quite fitting for a season finale, the MQ staff go up in arms against the executive director (David Brittle-as-a-bee Hornsby) with the threat to unionize, while the founder slash creative director (Ian The Brother Grimm played by Rob McElhenney) deflects his personal issues to obsess about the next big thing for Mythic Quest: Raven's Banquet - a concept called Blood Ocean. What is it? No one knows, not even Ian. Maybe it's the BLOOD OCEAN POTION!!!

A (non-exhaustive) list of things Ian doesn't do:

Sick. Phones. Budgets. Time.

Elsewhere, Imani Hakim's "OG gamer" character has been outed as a corporate shill even though she is chill, and trolls are taking a toll. Ashly Burch as Rachel takes Dana out for gaming outside of work. The evolution of their dormant story is interrupted by Jo - Jessie Ennis.

Brad, the ever-sharp Danny Pudi, makes a reference to DuckTales.

Of course! Huey Dewey Louie, Scrooge and Launchpad, with Donald NOT Trump

There's a little meta-dig at Siri when Ian tries to call Montreal.

However, everything’s alright in the end when the "physically, emotionally and spiritually exhausted" head programmer Poppy (nicely acted by Charlotte Nicdao) is deservedly promoted to CO-creative director and MQ's video game testers are quite probably put back together (good riddance to the intentionally abhorrent Lou {creator of Chernobyl, Craig Mazin} ?): but that’s for next season!

Another point about MQ as a whole:
The machinima transition clips are from Ubisoft, obviously, as are the gameplay scenes, and most of them are good. I have a predisposition towards nature so I like the day-night cycle time lapses more than the gory fighting setups that end in blood spouting everywhere. And beware the blood ocean scene at the end, it’s quite like THAT South Park episode, but with blood.
All in all, a good watch, full as usual of expletives, like most of Apple TV but with surprisingly less product placement, except for their phones! I think the audio gear & laptops are by Razer.

ADDENDUM FOR QUARANTINE: Episode 10 - A
The special quarantine episode is a great job in tough times by Rob McElhenny and team. A little bit of ethos with a sizeable charitable donation from Brad and David's Mortal Kombat battle, pathos from Ian and Poppy’s support for each other being alone, and logos shown in the memetic Rube Goldberg machine working through no fewer than a dozen video call screens. It made me smile, and that’s saying a lot in today’s trying times.

F Murray Abraham's C W Longbottom is great as the boomer.

Apropos "trying times", just listing all the bad stuff off the top of my head: COVID and all its complications. China intrusions in Ladakh, Chushul, which we visited not too long ago on a road trip:

Kashmir terrorism plans (never-ending but thankfully defused). And that’s just my nation. The world is reeling, while egomaniacs are ruling.

Sigh. Come on, humankind. There's a "kind" right in our name!

Let’s try to become better people for a better future. Don’t listen to hatemongers, be rational in your thought and action, and value human life - and our planet which supports it.

Peace out, and 6hourism.
